HR is all about people. Yes there is a degree of ensuring the right and proper policies and procedures are in place, but fundamentally HR is about making sure employees feel well looked after. There is a growing team of around nine people in HR, with several more working in associated areas such as recruitment, training, and health and safety. There are various roles, dealing with all types of employee relations, from sickness management and supporting business acquisitions, to making sure nurses have all the right checks in place.
It’s a lovely working environment and I like the fact that you are given a responsibility and then expected to get on with it – you’re not micromanaged like in some companies. It’s a very supportive atmosphere and if you have the potential you can go a long way. For all new starters to Healthcare at Home we organise inductions and ensure they know the company’s policies. It’s a nice feeling to be able to help and advise employees on all the various issues so that they feel cared for.
