Service innovation
Since we started in 1992, Healthcare at Home has been a pioneer of high-tech home healthcare, being the first, and often still the only, company to provide certain treatments outside of a hospital setting.
We always put patients first, recognising all their needs as people rather than just the demands of their condition or treatment. All patients are cared for by a local team of experienced, specialised medical professionals, from whom they receive focused attention and care.
Working in conjunction with the referring clinician, we design a bespoke service for patients, whether it be prescription management and home delivery, or assembling a community-based, multi-disciplinary teams (physiotherapists, family liaison officers etc). Patients can have 24-hour access to nursing and emotional support where required, often via our innovative Care Bureau.
Our prescription management service ensures that patients always receive the correct medication and ancillary medical items, at the right time, without the need for hospital, GP or pharmacy visits.
Caring for patients within the community in this way has been proven to be cost-effective. In the largest study of its kind, a 2008 UK study showed that patients treated by Healthcare at Home for a wide range of conditions over the course of a year was approximately 80 per cent less expensive than comparable in-hospital treatment.
The Healthcare at Home community-based breast care is the way forward and an exemplar for service design. The nurse co-ordinates all aspects of care from before the first hospital visit through investigation and diagnosis, surgery, adjuvant treatments and support through palliative treatment and terminal care. She is knowledgeable, a super communicator and peerless organiser.
