Benefits of home healthcare

The financial benefits are clear: a major study found that Healthcare at Home was 80% less expensive than comparable in-hospital services over a range of services, and a further study estimated that PCTs could generate baseline savings of up to £1.2 billion if just four of our services were more widely adopted across England.

The clinical benefits are clear: an increasing library of evidence including peer reviewed literature shows that clinical outcomes, ranging from pain levels to recovery time to medication compliance, are at least as good as, and in many cases better, than in-hospital treatment.

The patient benefits are even clearer: 96% of patients who responded to our recent survey would prefer to be treated at home than in hospital.

Without compromising outcomes, we deliver a cost-effective, clinically-driven service that:

  • Is flexible to individual patient needs
  • Works in partnership with existing structures and services
  • Prevents hospital admission and reduces readmission rates
  • Relieves capacity pressure and related investment decisions
  • Releases capital through reduced hospital requirement for holding stock of high-value drugs
  • Reduces the risk of healthcare associated infections
  • Provides qualified, specialist nurses Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM, supported by a 24/7 on-call nurse and support team
  • Gives patients choice and control over their care

Home-based care offers the very essence of what we are trying to achieve. We are able to offer services and products which are new and innovative to our primary care trusts and our customers, at a reduced cost.
