Healthcare at Home Pharmacy at York

A Healthcare at Home Pharmacy is now open at York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, situated in the main mall at the hospital entrance. Patients from clinics and A&E can bring prescriptions here rather than wait for their prescriptions to be dispensed from the main hospital Pharmacy.

By 2009, growing demands on the hospital's main pharmacy department meant that the hospital had to divert most outpatients to community pharmacy. The new facility brings outpatient dispensing back to the hospital, so that patients can get their medications before they go home.

Opening hours run longer into the evening and weekend than the main hospital pharmacy department and it offers the option of home delivery.

Waiting times for patients who have been given prescriptions at hospital clinics and A&E are reduced by the Healthcare at Home Pharmacy, which focuses specifically on this group of patients. This allows the main hospital pharmacy to focus on providing a speedy service to higher risk patients on wards and in clinical trials, and to patients waiting for discharge medications.
